The Climate Change Commission (CCC) plans to implement by next year a system that would require business enterprises to be compliant with Republic Act 10771 or the Philippine Green Jobs Act of 2016.

The move is seen to assist the labor department in integrating in its system on how to deal with the effects of climate change in the employment aspects in the country.

CCC planning officer Ayesha Sarapuddin said they are already coordinating with labor officials in finalizing the certification system’s guidelines.

RA 10771 mandates CCC to develop and administer appropriate standards for the assessment and certification of green goods and services, technologies and practices.

The said law defines green goods and services as those that benefit the environment or conserve natural resources and may include research and development, installation and maintenance services.

Green jobs, meanwhile, refer to employments that contribute to preserving or restoring the quality of the environment, be it in the agriculture, industry or services sector.

She said her office plans to pilot-test the guidelines this year to further refine them before officially implementing the same as early as 2020.

Sarapuddin said the guidelines will enable CCC to assess operations of enterprises aiming to be certified as green job providers.

The CCC will certify business enterprises that will pass the agency’s assessment on compliance with RA 10771. Likewise, certified enterprises will also be given incentives.
