Quezon City Police Director Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) yesterday released a composite sketch of one of the six men suspected of carrying out the killing of Quezon City barangay chair Crisell “Beng” Beltran last Wednesday.

QCPD director Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel Jr. recounted during a press conference that since all six suspects aboard three motorcycles were wearing full-face helmets, it was only by chance that one was “identified.”

“When the suspect ran out of bullets, he tried to change magazine. Maybe he could not see the gun because it was dark, so he raised his helmet,” Esquivel said in Filipino.

“That’s how we got the lead,” he added, explaining that the composite image was created with the help of an eyewitness who got the chance to see the suspect’s face without the helmet.

The chair of Barangay Bagong Silangan in Quezon City, Beltran was shot dead along with her driver while aboard a white Ford Everest. She was running for a congressional seat when assassinated.

The police are eyeing politics as possible motive for the killing.

According to the eyewitness, the “identified” suspect was in his 40s, about 5’5” tall, with a slight built, fair complexion and black hair.

Esquivel said they are reviewing closed circuit camera television footage in the area during the killing with the hope of identifying the suspect or suspects.

Meanwhile, Quezon City acting Mayor Joy Belmonte offered a P5-million reward money to whoever can provide information on the suspects leading to their arrest.

Belmonte assured the public that the Quezon City government will help in any way to help bring before the bar of justice the killers of Beltran. Esquivel also appealed for information that may help the police.
