Bangkok, Thailand — Yanmar Agribusiness Corp., a unit of the Japanese diesel engine manufacturer Yanmar, bared on Tuesday its latest tractor model equipped with the best technology available.
Yanmar president Hiroaki Kitaoka said the newest iteration of the agricultural equipment should help boost the agribusiness sector in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
“With the entry of the YM (tractor) into the burgeoning Southeast Asia tractor market, Yanmar is poised to deliver 21st century agriculture towards improving lifestyles and delivering value to the region’s farmers,” Kitaoka said.
The equipment can be of great help for Filipino farmers given the country’s lack of agricultural technology.
According to Yanmar, the launch of the YM addresses the demand by field contractors for an efficient, lightweight but reliable 50 to 60 horsepower (hp) tractors that cut costs and ultimately, maximize farmer income.
“The all-new YM is a total tractor that can work both rice paddies and dry fields and can haul loads and features advanced geolocation functions towards improving the work efficiency and profitability of farmers and operators,” Yanmar said.
“The tractors feature a host of innovations and new technology that will streamline operators’ work and create new value for the regions’ farmers,” it added.
The YM is scheduled for progressive deployment across Southeast Asia and elsewhere in the world.

According to Kitaoka, the YM is a product of close collaboration with three countries namely Japan, India and Thailand.
Yanmar said that the tractor engine was made in Japan, the tractor’s body was made in India while its assembly was done in Thailand.
The tractor comes in two variants, YM351A and YM357A with a power output of 51 and 57 hp respectively.
