Optimism on the quality of life and the economy based on a survey released yesterday was proof that President Rodrigo Duterte is “winning the hearts and minds” of Filipinos and “proving his critics wrong,” Malacañang said.
Results of a poll conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) last 16 to 19 December revealed 37 percent of Filipinos said their lives have improved over the past 12 months, which was an increase by nine points from 28 percent posted in 28 September 2018.
Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said the Palace welcomes the latest results and vowed the administration will keep exploring avenues to provide a comfortable life to each Filipino.
“It is therefore not surprising that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte continues to win the hearts and minds of the Filipino people as he enters the midpoint of his six-year presidential term,” Panelo said in a statement.

“This is another repudiation of the skeptics, left-leaning groups, militant Church members and the political opposition who ignore or refuse to heed the people’s voice and see nothing good in the President’s tireless efforts to improve and bring about genuine and positive change to the nation,” the official added.
The survey reflected the respondents’ perception of having a decline in hunger, a lower percentage of those who consider themselves as poor and a majority expressing hope of a better life this year.
Still, Panelo reiterated the President and his men will not be complacent and will continue to strive hard to steer the country on the right track.
“Despite these positive results, the administration is not resting on its laurels and remains steadfast and committed to achieving its goal of inclusive growth to provide a comfortable life for the Filipino people,” the spokesman said.
The SWS interviewed 1,440 respondents using sampling error margins of ±2.6 percentage points for national percentages, and ±5 percentage points each for Balance Luzon, Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao.
The survey also found that 43 percent of Filipinos are optimistic that the economy would get better this year from 31 percent in the September 2018 survey. This is also the highest optimism in the Philippine economy since December 2017.
The survey also showed 45 percent of Filipinos are expecting their personal quality of life to improve in the next 12 months, a big jump from 27 percent in September.
