In a crime that plumbs the depths of human depravity, an eight-month-old baby girl was confirmed by medico legal examination to have been raped in Malate, Manila.
Policemen arrested yesterday 22-year-old Benidicto C. Dizon after he was positively identified by the 16-year-old mother of the baby as the alleged perpetrator of the dastardly act.
The mother “Madel” said she got the shock of her life when she woke up last Sunday and found the suspect atop her baby with his short pants down to his knees.

The mother, however, did not reveal how the suspect came to be in her house along Dakota Street or if he is related to her in any way.
Going by the alias Jumong, Dizon was arrested in his house at 2288 Leveriza Street in Malate. He was detained at Station 9 of the Manila Police District.
“Madel” narrated that the incident happened at around 5 a.m. when she was roused from her sleep by the loud cry of her baby and saw the suspect in the act of raping the infant.
The baby was confirmed to have sustained lacerations in her genitals during a medico legal examination at the Philippine General Hospital, indicating she had been raped.
Dizon will be charged before city prosecutors with violating Republic Act 8353 or the Anti-Rape Law and RA 7610 penalizing sexual abuse.
Police probers surmised the suspect may have been under the influence of drugs when he committed the crime.
During a visit to the Daily Tribune office, Philippine National Police chief Director Oscar Albayalde said that many heinous crimes had been committed by drug addicts.
Albayalde said drugs tend to embolden criminals, thus the need for the public to support the government’s campaign against illegal drugs to make the streets safe even at night.
In Pasig City, police arrested two drug personalities in a buy-bust operation Tuesday night.
Senior Supt. Rizalito Gapas Jr., Pasig police chief, identified the suspects as Elimar Santos, 52, construction worker; and Liza Cruz, 33; both residents of Barangay Bambang.
The two suspects are neighbors and are included in the barangay’s drugs watch list.
Recovered from them were nine sachets of suspected shabu and the P500 buy-bust money.
Charges for violation of Republic Act of 9165 or the Comprehensive of Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against the suspects before the Pasig City Prosecutor’s Office.
