The Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center in Tondo, Manila was forced to close temporarily to the public its emergency room section after admitting a patient with suspected meningococcemia.
The 55-year-old female patient showed signs of the highly infectious infection, including violet-colored rashes and fever running unabated for over three days.
However, the doctors have yet to confirm at press time whether it was indeed a case of meningococcemia. The closure of the ER was just a precaution, said a staff of the hospital.
The patient was placed in an isolation room while awaiting the results of her laboratory tests, including blood culture.
