San Juan City Vice Mayor and mayoralty candidate Janella Ejercito Estrada vowed to continue the programs initiated by outgoing Mayor Guia Gomez if she wins in this year’s midterm elections.
Estrada said she will continue developing housing programs not just for the city’s informal settlers but also for city hall employees and public school teachers.
“It will be a big challenge for me to follow her footsteps with her many accomplishments that she did for the people of San Juan,” Estrada told the Daily Tribune in an interview.
Gomez is winding down her third and final term as San Juan Mayor.
“But I believe I can do it. I am confident I can implement all those programs and projects which I think can help uplift the lives of our constituents,” the vice mayor added.

The young Estrada is a former city councilor and is only on her first term as vice mayor. She is running against former vice mayor Francis Zamora — the son of San Juan City Rep. Ronaldo Zamora, a longtime friend and erstwhile political ally of the Estrada.
Gomez disclosed that the city government is planning to construct two 10-storey buildings for city hall employees and public school teachers.
“We have a lot of infrastructure projects, but I don’t think I can finish them all. The hospital is ongoing, but I think hopefully we can finish more than three-fourths [of the hospital building] according to the contractor,” Gomez said.
