Cignal is bringing in a quality scorer in Erica Wilson of the United States in a bid to come up with a strong fight in the Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix next month.

HD Spikers’ coach Edgar Barroga said Wilson would be flying in this Saturday, making her the third import to arrive after Foton reinforcements Selime Ilyasoglu and Courtney Felinski landed Monday night.

The former Arizona State University star was personally pick by noted American coach Karch Kiraly to be part of the United States U23 squad that saw action in the FIVB Women’s U23 World Championship in 2013.

After the Americans finished fourth, she brought her talent to Germany before moving to Switzerland and Turkey.

Barroga said Wilson has been on their radar since last year.

“Unfortunately, we were closed to reaching an agreement last year, but she signed up with a Turkish team,” said Barroga, who is looking for a better finish after crashing to sixth place in he import-flavored conference last year with Sonja Milanovic of and Jeanne Horton as imports.

“Unlike in the past when we were hiring middles, we’re going for either an open spiker or a utility to help is in the scoring department. Our hopes are high with Erica. I hope she can help us turn things around.”

Barroga said they have yet to reach an agreement with their second import after she decided to sign up in France.

Still, he’s eying another scorer to help carry the scoring cudgels from skipper Rachel Anne, especially now that star spiker Jovelyn Gonzaga and former San Beda ace Janine Marciano are still recuperating from anterior cruciate ligament tear they suffered last year.

“We want another scorer to be our second import,” said Barroga, hinting that national team member Mylene Paat would join Shirley Salamagos, Janine Navarro and new recruit Ranya Musa in the middle spot.

“But with Erica flying in this weekend, at least we can start our training program.”
