Dreadful clicks

Netizens likely have heard the oft-repeated advice: “Think before you click.”

Apparently, the import of that advice got lost on the fugitive dubbed the Most Wanted of Palayan, Nueva Ejica and he paid the price for being careless or just being too dumb to know better.

This developed after the police arrested Reymer Santos Cunanan, 24, who had been in hiding for over a year due to charges of robbery and carnapping he is facing in his hometown of Palayan.

Cunanan was arrested a day after he posted a picture in his Facebook account, showing him on a swing at the park near the municipal hall of Pililla, Rizal.

Apparently, Cunanan was too cocky to believe he could get away with it because the park where the photo was taken was barely a few meters away from a police station.

“He must have thought that since he has fled away from his hometown, nobody would recognize him anymore. What he did not remember was that there was a standing warrant of arrest against him,” said Chief Insp. Robert Santos, chief of Pililla Police.

Santos said someone recognized Cunanan from his FB post and alerted the authorities.

A day after Cunanan made his FB post, the police swooped down on his residence in Barangay Niyogan in Pililla and arrested him. Recovered from the arrested fugitive were a .22 caliber homemade pistol and several sachets believed to contain shabu.

It was learned that after leaving Nueva Ecija, Cunanan settled in Pililla and worked as a fisherman to cover up his criminal past.

But it was his addiction to social media that led to his downfall. He must have felt good after clicking the “Post” button in FB to show his picture to fellow netizens and his FB friends.

The next clicks he heard were the dreadful sound of handcuffs being placed on his wrists.
