What was supposed to be a joyful birthday celebration turned bloody, after five people who were all guests in the party were killed while eight others were injured, when a car collided head-on with a tricycle in San Juan, Batangas before dawn Friday.
Initial reports indicated all those involved in the road mishap were guests in the debut party which they attended prior to the accident.
Chief Insp. Rosell Encarnacion, head of San Juan Police Office, said the incident happened around 3 a.m. in Barangay Laiya-Aplaya shortly after the victims left the party.
Encarnacion said all the victims knew each other since they all hailed from the same village.

It was gathered that the car, driven by one Kelly Villanueva, and carrying four passengers, was first to leave the debut party but the group dropped by somewhere in the village on a friend’s invitation.
When Villanueva’s group went back on the road, they came across the tricycle driven by Levy Gamil whose seven passengers also came from the same party.
While traversing a sharp curve in Barangay Hugom, the two vehicles suddenly collided with each other, causing the death of tricycle passengers John Eric Gamil, Borito Santos and a certain Popoy.
Another tricycle passenger, who was yet to be identified at press time died later in a hospital while Villanueva also died hours later.
Encarnacion said the injured were brought to different hospitals in Batangas City and in Rosario town in Batangas.
