The KaTropa just couldn’t find momentum as they started flat again
Simon Enciso scorched hot as Alaska cruised through an easy 125-96 victory over a slumping Talk ‘N Text for the early solo lead in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup last night at the Araneta Coliseum.
The unbeaten Aces closed out the first period with a blistering 30-10 run, then ripped the game wide open at 35-13 entering the second quarter.
It was all Alaska from there as it even extended the gap to as many as 37 points en route to a wire-to-wire win.
With this victory, Alaska remained perfect with a 2-0 win-loss slate to own the top of the team standings early in the season-ending conference.
“We’re on fire. I mean that’s clearly typified. We all saw that from Simon. He was on fire. He was really incredible,” said Alaska head coach Alex Compton.
“It was a great win. I was really happy for Simon.”
Enciso was unstoppable as he dropped 22 of his career-high 30 points in the first half alone, where the Aces completely left the KaTropa in the dust, 68-39.
The third-year veteran Enciso got all his points from beyond the arc as he sank a franchise-best among locals with his 10-of-13 three-point shooting.
All other 14 players also scored for Alaska, led by Vic Manuel with 18 points and import Mike Harris who tallied 16 points and 24 rebounds.
Chris Banchero was also instrumental for the Aces as he quarterbacked their offense well with a double-double of 15 points and 14 assists.
We’re on fire. I mean that’s clearly typified. We all saw that from Simon.
T’NT looked lost anew as it suffered its second straight and third overall loss to fall at the bottom of the season-ending conference with a paltry 1-3 slate.
Coming off a historic 98-104 loss to Blackwater last Friday which was their first defeat to the Elite in four years, the KaTropa just couldn’t find momentum as they started flat again en route to a forgettable 29-point loss.
As top locals Jayson Castro and Terrence Romeo struggled for 13 and nine points, respectively, Stacy Davis was the lone KaTropa fighting in the loss with a near triple double of 26 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists.
