An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was found dead in his flat in Bahrain, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported yesterday. The OFW, 37, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in Manam.
The DFA withheld the disclosure of his identity to the public until official notification of his family to whom the department extended its sympathies.
The Philippine Embassy is now cooperating with Bahrain authorities to probe the death of the OFW and to facilitate the return of the remains.
Philippine Ambassador to Bahrain Alfonso Ver said the Philippine Embassy will arrange for the repatriation of the remains of the migrant worker following medico-legal procedures.
Meanwhile, over 100 OFW will arrive in Manila today under the amnesty program of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government.

The second batch, composed of 117 repatriates, brings to 217 the number of Filipinos who availed themselves of the amnesty granted by the Arab state.
According to Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Elmer Cato, the latest batch from Dubai and the Northern Emirates is scheduled to arrive in Manila at 8:45 a.m. on board Philippine Airlines Flight 659.
“The repatriates will be accompanied by Vice Consul Elizabeth Picar Ramos of the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai,” he said.
The Department of Foreign Affairs shouldered the exit fees, penalties and plane tickets of the returning workers and is also set to provide each of them with 5,000 cash assistance upon arrival. KVD
