Five local government units of Maguindanao have surrendered a total of 35 loose firearms to the 40th Infantry Battalion (40IB) in a ceremony at the latter’s headquarters in Barangay Zapakan, Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao.
The surrendered firearms came from the municipalities of Radjah Buayan, Sultan sa Barongis, Shariff Aguak, Shariff Saydona Mustapha and Mamasapano, in line with the government’s firearms reductions program.
The ceremony was witnessed by 6th Infantry Division commander Brig Gen. Cirilito Sobejana and Rajah Buayan Mayor Zamzamin Ampatuan.
“To prevent terrorism in Maguindanao, we need to work together to address the security challenges in the region” Sobejana said.
“It is really a challenge for us to fight terrorism. Seventy percent (of the problem) is needed to be addressed by the civil government while the 30 percent will have to be addressed by the military,” Sobejana said.

The firearms surrendered were six Garand rifles, eight M14 rifles, eight shotguns, five Barretts, two KG9 and one each of M16, M79, 1K3, grease gun and 60 mm mortar.
The latest count put at 1,948 the loose firearms that had been surrendered to the 6th ID.
