Some 300 overseas Filipino workers (OFW) were assisted by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) upon their arrival from Saudi Arabia after being stranded at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The DFA has so far given P2.8 million in cash assistance to OFW affected by the 36-hour paralysis at the NAIA last week triggered by a Xiamen Airlines plane that skidded off the main runway.
The DFA said a total of 559 OFW received P5,000 each.
It reminded affected workers that it will release the cash assistance at all three NAIA terminals only until 10 p.m. today.
Stranded OFW who are still in Manila may still claim the P5,000 cash assistance at the DFA Office of Migrant Workers Affairs but only until the end of office hours on Friday, 31 August.

In a statement, the DFA said the workers, who were among the hundreds stranded in Manila in the past several days, were assisted upon their arrival in Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
Philippine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Adnan Alonto said an embassy team, led by Consul General Christopher Patrick Aro, received and assisted the arriving workers at the airport and provided them with meals.
The embassy also provided a bus to transport 15 of the workers to Jeddah where they were welcomed and assisted by officers and staff of the Consulate General led by Consul General Edgar Badajos.
Meanwhile, the DFA also came to the aid of several Filipino pilgrims after robbers ransacked their hotel rooms in Makkah, Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
DFA Assistant Secretary Elmer Cato, in a statement issued yesterday, said the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh immediately sent a team to Makkah after learning of the incident.
Alonto said the still unidentified robbers broke into five rooms and took the valuables of the Filipino pilgrims while they were in Minah.
As the hajj pilgrimage activities came to a close, the DFA said that more than 5,000 Filipino pilgrims went to Makkah and Madinah for this year’s pilgrimage.
