As another one lies in wait outside of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), a low pressure area spotted northwest of extreme northern Luzon has developed into Tropical Depression Luis, the weather bureau said Thursday.
In its 11 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said Luis — with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 90 km/h — is not expected to directly affect any part of the country but may enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat.
This will bring scattered moderate to heavy rains in La Union, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Batanes and Babuyan Islands and the Codillera Administrative Region (CAR) starting Friday, 24 August.
Residents in low-lying and in mountainous areas are advised to take appropriate actions against possible flooding and landslides. Sea travel has also been pronounced “risky” in the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon.
Luis is expected to exit PAR on Sunday morning.
