JAKARTA, Indonesia — Caloy Yulo is primed to emerge as one of the country’s youngest gold medalists in the Asian Games.

The 18-year old Yulo dazzled the judges in the qualifier of his pet routine – floor exercise – to capture the top spot heading into the finals on Thursday.

Yulo registered 14.50 points to top the floor exercise and 14.15 points to emerge fourth in vault late Monday at the Jakarta International Expo Hall B.

Yulo marched into the finals at the eighth spot after his overall scores in floor exercise, parallel bars, pommel horse, vault rings and horizontal bar were summed up.

Gymnastics Association of the Philippines president Cynthia Carrion said his ward still has a lot to show and will definitely go for gold in the finals.

“He’s still hiding something. He still has a lot to show,” Carrion, who was at the stands to watch Yulo in action, told Daily Tribune’s Asiad coverage supported by Primehomes.

“At least he will enter the finals at the eighth. Imagine, he’s eighth out of 60 competitors and emerged on top in his favorite event, which is the floor exercise.
