Cebuanos will start to enjoy the mass transport system by 2021.

An unsolicited proposal for the construction of a P50-billion Monorail Transit System (MRT) for Metro Cebu is ready for presentation by Philtram Transportation Consortium Inc. to the Department of Transportation (DoTr).

Philtram’s Cerwin Eviota said the proposed route of the train starts from Tabunok, Talisay City through midtown Cebu City to United Nations Avenue junction in Mandaue City.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade earlier announced the government interest in an MRT project for Cebu and the island of Mactan to serve its international airport there.

He said DoTr will soon implement an Integrated Transportation System (ITS) that will synchronize various transportation projects to address Cebu’s worsening traffic problem.

ITS will include a point-to-point(P2P) bus system similar to Mybus already operational in the city.

Also being planned are a monorail in Lapu-Lapu City, a Bus Rapid Transit system (BRT) in three land roads and and a lightrail transit system from Carcar to Danao City.

“In a week or two once consortium agreements are finalized and sealed,the unsolicited proposal will be submitted to DoTr,” Eviota said.

After its approval, China Railway Engineering Corp.subsidiary China Railway Engineering Consulting Group will then follow.

Presently being implemented in Cebu City is the BRT funded by the World Bank and the French government.

Cebuanos will start to enjoy the mass transport system by 2021 as it will take two years to complete civil works, installation of a signaling system and the test runs for rolling stocks.
