The Bureau of Immigration (BI) will soon deport a Chinese arrested recently at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for entering the country with a fake Philippine passport.

The Chinese, Kang Jialian, 30, attempted to pass himself off as a Filipino but immigration personnel detected his spurious passport, said Port Operations Division Chief Marc Red Mariñas.

Mariñas said Kang arrived from Hong Kong.

“He does not know how to speak Filipino and English or any Philippine dialect when the immigration officer spoke to him,” the BI official said.

“He later admitted his true nationality by bringing out his Chinese passport which he hid in his bag,” Mariñas added.

Kang assumed the name Chua Hong Waa in the fake Philippine passport whose bio-page was found by immigration counter personnel to have been altered and unreadable by a scanner.

The Chinese was brought to the BI detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig where he remains confined pending deportation proceedings.

Meanwhile, BI agents have arrested an Australian in Siquijor for overstaying in the country for two years.

Acting Intelligence Chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. identified the alien as Matthew Joseph Maurer, 53, whose presence in Siquijor was reported by town officials.

“We have upgraded our technologies and strengthened our intelligence gathering and we will strictly enforce the law,” Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said in warning foreigners who are running afoul with immigration and other laws.
