Cusi Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi reiterated the administration’s commitment to electrify the remaining three million households that remain underserved.
Speaking at the Energy Investment Briefing for Region X at the N Hotel, Cagayan De Oro City and sponsored by the Department of Energy (DoE), Cusi vowed to bring power to the remaining unlighted areas of the country under its Total Electrification Program (TEP).
“We are aggressively pursuing initiatives catering to the unserved and underserved areas of the country to promote inclusive growth. This initiative supports Ambisyon Natin 2040 – providing a strongly-rooted, comfortable and secure life for all Filipinos,” Cusi said.
At the briefing sponsored by the DoE’s Investments Promotion Office, Cusi cited the need for additional capacity for the country and collaboration with local stakeholders such as the LGU and electric cooperatives to speed up the realization of the various energy projects.
“The energy family is reaching out to potential host communities and interested energy investors, to discuss the latest policies and programs that facilitate the implementation of energy projects,” Cusi said in a speech delivered by Assistant Secretary Redentor E. Delola.

He explained that cooperation between distribution utilities and franchisee areas falling in underserved or unserved communities is crucial in achieving the goal of country-wide electrification.
The DoE identified six regions with electrification levels falling below 80 percent. There are four in Mindanao (Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao 27.4 percent, SOCCSKARGEN 65.6 percent, Zamboanga peninsula 67 percent, and Davao region (68.2 percent); the Negros Island Region in the Visayas (79.3 percent) and MIMAROPA in Luzon (79.9 percent).
Under its proposed 2019 budget, the DoE set aside P505 million for TEP. The program will align its efforts on powering 14,320 households with the National Electrification Administration, the National Power Corporation, the distribution utilities and other members of the energy industry.
The DoE conducts energy investment briefings for the stakeholders to interact with each other at the local level.
