After eight long years, the luck of a fugitive American facing charges for sexual abuse finally ran out.
Yesterday the Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced the arrest of Stacey Thomas, 49, who is wanted by federal authorities in Texas.
He was arrested at his residence in Bagong Buwan, Teresa Heights in Fairview, Quezon City. Authorities said Thomas was hiding in the country for the last eight years.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said he issued the mission order for Thomas’ arrest upon the request of the US embassy in Manila which sought his deportation to the United States so he could stand trial for his crime.
Thomas is the subject of an arrest warrant issued by a US District Court in Western Texas where he was charged with the crime of abusive sexual contact, an offense akin to sexual assault.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation included Thomas in its wanted list since July 2010 after the court issued a warrant against him.
Bobby Raquepo, head of the bureau’s Fugitive Search Unit, said Thomas is an undocumented alien because his passport was canceled earlier by the US government.
Immigration record shows Thomas arrived in the Philippines in August 2010, barely a month after the arrest warrant against him was issued.
Thomas is detained at the BI detention facility in Taguig City pending issuance of the order for his deportation.
