JAKARTA – Serving as flag bearer is not going to be a simple chore for Jordan Clarkson.
Mike Clarkson said having his son being chosen to lead the 272 Filipino athletes in the opening ceremonies of the 18th Asian Games on Sunday is something that the entire family is proud of.
Clarkson is reportedly on his way to this bustling metropolis after getting cleared by both the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

Mike said the young Clarkson didn’t lose hope despite a previous denial to suit up for the national men’s basketball team.
“He remained persistent and determined in his goal of representing his Filipino heritage,” Mike said in a statement.
“The distinguished honor of being the Philippine flag-bearer is truly a blessing, something that our family will always remember.”
Prior to Clarkson’s formal appointment, chief of mission Richard Gomez and his deputy, Robert Bachmann, were mulling possible names for the distinguished role that was already played by Filipino sporting legends like Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski, Paeng Nepomuceno, Efren “Bata” Reyes and Manny Pacquiao.
Their shortlist included World Cup champion Krizziah Tabora, Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz, International Taekwondo Federation Man of the Year for 2017 Monsour del Rosario and cyclist Danny Caluag.
