The urban poor group Kadamay has called for the government’s quick rescue of families in relocation sites trapped in floodwater.

“We are now calling for the quick response of the administration because lives are at stake and death may result if they are negligent in addressing the needs of the people,” said Kadamay National Chairperson Gloria “Ka Bea” Arellano in a statement issued Sunday.

“This is not the first time that this happened and the government should have learned from the past typhoon,” Arellano said.

Kadamay was referring to residents at the Kasiglahan Village, a relocation site in Rodriguez, Rizal where two residents were reportedly electrocuted to death and almost 2,000 families were trapped, including children and elders for hours.

These families were not able to rescue their belongings, Kadamay claimed.

Housing areas in Bulacan are flooded with muds that reached knee-level, it added.
