Two police officers were wounded following an attack by members of the New People’s Army (NPA) on a makeshift police station in Lapinig, Northern Samar, early Friday morning.

The officers were identified as PO2 Jerry Quilecol and PO1 Edizon Aguerre, according to the Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office.

Lapinig Police Chief Noli Montibon said he could not ascertain the number of NPA members riding motorcycles and two dump trucks who conducted the attack.

“It was dawn when we were attacked by the NPA. They were riding two dump trucks, others were on motorcycles and still others were on foot,” the police chief recounted. “The firefight lasted for more or less 20 minutes.”

Montibon also reported the rebels carted away with computers, cash and other personal possessions of his colleagues. He claimed several from the NPA were also wounded.

The attack was second to happen in the Municipality of Lapinig in five years.

According to Northern Samar Police Provincial Office, the rebels — led by a certain Marmar – were on board two elf dump trucks and motorcycles. They were armed with Uzis, M14, M16, M203 and K3 submachine guns.

There were only seven PNP personnel on duty at the time.
