Elements of the Western Command’s Joint Task Group (JTG) South of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) engaged on Wednesday a group of New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Sitio Bayabas, Barangay Quinlogan, Quezon in Palawan.
While conducting combat patrol, JTG South operatives led by Marine 1st Lt. Joe Luis Asperin encountered a group of communist rebels under Alyas Allan and Alyas Boywan around 11:20 a.m.
The firefight that lasted for about 45 minutes resulted in the recovery of one M60 machine gun, two M16 rifles, one M14 rifle, one bandolier with 7 loaded magazines, two cellphones, two M203 ammunition and other assorted items.
There is no casualty on the side of the government troops. Follow up and clearing operations are on going to determine casualties on the side of the rebel group and ensure they would no longer pose a threat in the area.
“Our focused military operations and community support programs have yielded positive results in our efforts to dismantle the communist terrorists in the province of Palawan,” said Lt. Gen. Rozzano Briguez, commander of Western Command.
