Makati Mayor Abby Binay The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Monday named Makati Mayor Abby Binay as one of the outstanding local chief executives for 2018 for her exceptional support for the projects of the Philippine National Police and for improving the logistics of the Makati police.

The mayor received a plaque of recognition from NCRPO Acting Regional Director, Police Chief Supt. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, during the culminating ceremony of the 23rd Police Community Relations Month Celebration held at the NCRPO grandstand at Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.

The mayor thanked the NCRPO for the recognition and reiterated her continued support for the local police force.

“I am deeply grateful to the National Capital Region Police Office for honoring me with this rare achievement in my journey as a public servant. We in the city government of Makati are inspired all the more to provide our full support to national agencies like the PNP that are our indispensable partners in keeping Makatizens safe and sustaining our city’s progress and development,” said the mayor.

Binay underscored the importance of strong local government support in continuously building up the capability of national government agencies in the protective sector to promote safe and resilient communities where citizens are truly empowered.

This is the second recognition received by the mayor for her support for the protective sector. Last 2 August, Thursday, the mayor also received recognition from the Bureau of Fire Protection for her remarkable support for the national agency.

During the 27th anniversary celebration of the fire bureau held at the Camp Aguinaldo AFP Commissioned Officers Club, Quezon City, Mayor Binay was awarded the Medalya ng Pambihirang Paglilingkod – Degree of Lakan Award.

Undersecretary Eduardo Año, officer-in-charge of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), together with Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Chief, Director Leonard Bañago, presented the award to Binay.

Under the guidelines of the Revised BFP-PRAISE (Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence), the Degree of Lakan Award may be given to any local chief executive who has notably contributed fire trucks, ambulances, parcel of land, PPEs, and firefighting equipment to the BFP; or constructed or renovated a fire station with an annual aggregate amount of not less than P5 million.

Last June, the city government of Makati turned over a total of 26 brand new patrol vehicles to the Makati police department, including 18 units of Mitsubishi Strada and eight units of Toyota Avanza.

Meanwhile, as part of the observance of the Fire Prevention Month, Binay formally turned over last 19 March a number of firefighting equipment to the BFP. These included one mobile command vehicle; one chemical fire truck, two rescue boats with one fire pump; 10 sets of mobile fire suppression gear consisting of motorcycles, protective helmets and portable foam compressors; and two extra foam compressors.

One unit of Mobile Command Vehicle and two rescue boats were also turned over to Makati police during the said event.

The mayor said that the provision of modern disaster risk reduction and management equipment to peacekeeping agencies is part of the city’s thrust towards disaster readiness, resilience and sustainability.
