CEBU CITY — Cameroonian import Frederick Ngoh Elombi exploded for 38 points to lead University of Cebu to an 87-69 win over Ateneo de Davao in the San Remigio Properties Invitational basketball tournament Friday at the Magis Eagles Arena in Mandaue City.
After riding the bench in the first quarter, Elombi was unleashed as he wreaked havoc in the second half and scored 34 points to tow the Webmasters to a masterful conquest.
Graduating playmaker Justin Dacalos added 15 points for the Webmasters, who would be looking to claim the outright title when they face host Sacred Heart-Ateneo de Cebu Saturday night.
Despite being beaten in almost all departments, two of the Blue Knights managed to put up double figures with Arnold Heje scoring 22 points and Miguel Emmanuel Pacheco delivering 13 points.
Earlier, Far Eastern University paid no respect to the Magis Eagles as it escaped with an 83-79 win to chalk a 1-1 (win-loss) record.
Cholo Anonuevo paced the Baby Tamaraws with 27 points while Aeron Marvin Bagano added 18 markers.
Rubick Bacao and Michael Cutamora, meanwhile, tallied 17 and 16 points, respectively, for the Magis Eagles.
