The Philippine National Police (PNP) has dismissed 1,828 of 6,401 of its errant personnel facing administrative charges since 2016 for involvement in criminal cases and other offenses.
The other day, PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde reiterated his warning against rogue cops.
“When we say deadly, we will be sharp in identifying these scalawags in uniform,” Albayalde said. “We will be relentless and resolute in our internal cleansing.”
The PNP started its Internal Cleansing Program two years ago to rid its roster of policemen involved in crime, grave misconduct, serious neglect of duty, malversation and graft corruption.
Raids had been conducted on police stations, including in Quezon City and Taguig, to arrest policemen engaged in the most common offense of extorting money from the relatives of those they have arrested.
