San Beda University drew strength from season-best effort of Javee Mocon to overpower Mapua, 88-70, and remain undefeated in four outings in the 94th National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Mocon finally found his rhythm after struggling in his first three games and ended up with season-highs 22 points and 16 rebounds to help the Red Lions stay unscathed in four games.
It was twice the output put up by Mocon after going into the duel with norms of 11 points and 8.7 rebounds.
“It was a total team effort but Javee stepped up big in this game,” said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez.
Donaldo Tankoua had 12 points and seven rebounds while Robert Bolick was contented enough to play facilitator and wound up with 11 points and eight assists.

Meanwhile, rookie transferee JP Maguliano came through with the game of his life as Emilio Aguinaldo College shocked San Sebastian College, 79-77, in overtime to book its first victory after four straight defeats.
Maguliano, who transferred from Adamson Univeristy, erupted for career-highs 30 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field and eight of nine from the free throw line and 17 rebounds to help the help lift the Generals to victory.
It was a game to remember for Maguliano, who came into the match scoring a total of seven points and grabbing 17 boards.
