DAMASCUS — The Islamic State (IS) extremist group has kidnapped at least 36 Druze women and children since it attacked their village last week in Syria’s Sweida Province, a monitor said Monday.
On Wednesday, massive suicide blasts and shootings claimed by the IS left over 250 people killed in the provincial capital and nearby villages.
“Twenty women and 16 children were kidnapped by (IS) on 25 July. Four of them managed to flee to Druze areas, two others died,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
That left 14 women and 16 children in IS captivity, said the observatory head Rami Abdel-Rahman. Another 17 men were unaccounted for, but it was unclear whether they were also held hostage.
