Police Officer 1 Edmar Costo of the Baclaran police station is reeling from the consequences of slapping a bus driver he confronted Wednesday.
The incident caught on video and posted on social media went viral and reached his superiors, who promptly relieved him Thursday.
From the looks of it, Costo suffered a double whammy if his explanation of what prompted him to slap Joel Mametis, driver of Valisno Express Bus, was what really happened.
Costo boarded the bus to confiscate the license of Mametis for allegedly tangling traffic on Roxas Boulevard. The driver was chuckling while refusing to hand over his license, driving the cop to lose his temper and slap him in the face.
A crumpled P100 bill was inserted in the license as “areglo” (settlement) when Costo got it from Mametis.
Costo found the bribe insulting so he slapped the driver again using the license card.
The neophyte law enforcer learned his lessons well. It’s a tough job but, as the saying goes, “Ang pikon talo (Get peeved, you lose).”
