Manila gets threat letter from IS-NPA

Have terrorists from the Islamic State (IS) and New People’s Army rebels joined forces?

This question arose as the Manila Police District (MPD) alerted all of its units following the recovery of a torn Philippine Flag and a purported threat letter from IS and the NPA.

Based on an MPD report, the threat letter and torn flag were discovered last July 11 by mobile patrol J40 manned by Police Officer 1 Vincent Lumoljo at San Pedro St. in Manila.

Street sweeper Joyce Valencia alerted the policeman about the torn flag and letter at around 5:30 in the morning.

Valencia said she was cleaning along Quezon Boulevard in front of the Manila City Hall when she saw a cellophane bag containing the bag and the letter which read:

“We will exact payback from you. Your soldiers are useless. So be ready because we are just around you. The shredded flag, that’s what we will do with the entire Philippines.”

The letter came from IS-NPA. It also threatened the President’s daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

In response, the MPD ordered its operatives to undergo “target-hardening measures” all over Manila, especially vital installations.

Intensify intelligence operations and exercise vigilance, MPD told its policemen.
