ACTS-OFW party-list Rep. Aniceto Bertiz III and Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III are at loggerheads over the provision of ID cards to overseas Filipino workers.
Bertiz III complained the Department of Labor and Employment has been charging P720 per ID when it should be free. He also complained the OFW ID is not functional and only serves to thicken the wallet.
Bello said he already scrapped the OFW ID project because someone who offered to produce the ID plans to make a profit from it.
The secretary said he would look for a way to continue the project at no cost to government and the OFW.
Like the school policy of “No ID, no entry,” if there is no OFW ID, there will be no chance for racketeers to victimize the so-called “bagong bayani.”
