The Siargao International Marathon fires off on Saturday to support Runrio Events’ zero-waste management and mangrove protection projects in Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte.
The event is being held with SKY as official media partner.
Thousands of local and international tourists as well as island residents are expected to participate in the destination run at the Muncipality of del Carmen.
The race has five distance categories—3km, 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km. Island residents may also join for free in the 5km category.
Part of the marathon’s route are the coastlines where mangroves from the project were planted last year. The organizers are also bringing in a waste management expert to introduce zero-waste management technology in the island.
