“I just want to keep working on my game and to share knowledge and wisdom to this game.”
After seven years, Kevin Durant is back.
Fresh from winning his second title with the Golden State Warriors, the 29-year old forward made his way back to Manila where he was showered with adulation by throng of Filipino fans at the Nike Park in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.
He had a meet-and-greet session before trooping to a media availability session, where he gamely answers questions about his career and his future with the Warriors.
But he said something that made a mark to Filipino fans.
“I just want to continue to experience more,” said the 29-year old newly crowned Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the NBA Finals and arguably one of the greatest players in the planet today.
“I just want to keep working on my game and to share knowledge and wisdom to this game.”
Yes, despite the megastar status that he now has, Durant is still very much willing to improve his game to emerge on the elite list of stars like Kareem Abdul-Jabar, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.
Some may question his loyalty after moving to the star-studded Warriors after nine luckless years with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
And now that the Warriors acquired DeMarcus Cousins to form a super team with All-Stars Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, speculations have it that the Warriors will be able to erect a dynasty and cement itself as one of the NBA’s greatest teams.
Durant said with that development comes a mountain of expectations.
“It’s amazing. It’s just great. It’s been a movie and it’s been a roller coaster ride for me,” said Durant who promoted his newly released shoeline KD 11 dubbed as ‘Still KD’ along with Nike Basketball Footwear Design Director Leo Chang.
“I’m happy to do this much to the game of basketball. Just having this journey, touring and travelling around the world to see cool places and meet fans. I’m just excited to be here. It’s amazing.”
The last time Durant was here was in 2011 when he joined a group of touring stars like Kobe Bryant, Derrick Rose, James Harden and Chris Paul in an exhibition match with Filipino players following a lockout in the NBA.
He changed team, he won a pair of titles and became a winner.
Only one thing didn’t change – his love for the game and his quest for perfection.
