Trece Martires Vice Mayor Alex Lubigan was killed in an ambush in Trece Martires City, Cavite yesterday afternoon, the third such violence against a local official this week.
Senior Supt. William Segun, Cavite provincial director, said Lubigan was on board a black Toyota Hilux pick-up truck when a gunman in a black Mitsubishi Montero van fired at the victim’s vehicle outside the Korean-Philippine Friendship Hospital around 3 p.m. yesterday.
Lubigan died instantly while the condition of his driver, Romulo Guillemer, who was also hit in the volley of gunfire, was not known at press time.
The Calabarzon provincial police office quoted witnesses as saying before the attack, the suspect’s vehicle bumped the vice mayor’s pick-up truck.
Police theorized politics was behind the attack and are establishing the identity of the suspect.

The assassination of Lubigan was the third in just one week.
Last Monday, Tanauan, Batangas Mayor Antonio Halili was shot dead while attending flag ceremony in front of the city hall.
Police said the gunman was 4.1 meters high from the ground and the shot was fired at an aerial distance of 76.8 meters from the mayor.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director Oscar Albayalde said unidentified gunmen on board a motorcycle fired at the car of Bote after coming from the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) office in Cabanatuan City.
