The Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) went up at the end of trading day on Tuesday despite the widening trade dispute between the United States and China putting pressure on the Asian markets.
The PSEi reentered the sentimental seven thousand mark, closing 7,007.21, up by 20.33 points or 0.29% higher from Monday’s closing at 6,986.88, though it dropped to as low as 6,929.86 intraday.
Holding firms gained the most in the six sectoral sub-indices closing the trading day up 0.75%. The property and industrial sectors are also in the green, notching 0.5% and 0.34%, respectively. Mining and oil, on the other hand, slumped -1.96% lower than the previous day.
Decliners outnumbered the gainers in the local market, 127 to 78, while the value of 41 registered corporations remained unchanged.
Wellex Industries, Inc. was the day’s biggest gainer, registering a 22.17% increase at P 0.270 per share from P0.221, followed by Forum Pacific, Inc. and Oriental Peninsula Resources Group, Inc., which also advanced in double figures.
Vivant Corporation led all decliners with a 20.00% slump to close at P16.00 pesos from P20.00 per share during Monday’s close, with Oriental Petroleum and Minerals Corporation and Berjaya Philippines, Inc. following with a -8.33% and -7.22% change, respectively.
Banking giant BDO Unibank, Inc. was the most actively traded stocks in the local bourse but it fell still 0.8%, followed by property conglomerate Ayala Land, Inc. which went up by 0.83%, and SM Investments, Corporation, which finished 0.95% lower. Ayala Corporation and SM Prime Holdings, Inc. completed the five most active stocks in the market.
