Globalport forward Moala Tautaa delivers a slam against Columbian defenders during their Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup game yesterday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. roman prospero Stanley Pringle erupted for 50 points to lift Globalport to a 133-115 victory over Columbian Dyip last night that kept his team in the race for a playoff spot in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The Batang Pier trailed early in the game, 25-29, before Pringle took over and knocked down 25 points in the first half to help Globalport erect a 66-56 lead entering the break.
Globalport refused to surrender the driver’s seat en route to a huge win that comes off an embarrassing 108-135 loss to Phoenix two days ago.
With the win, Globalport improved to a 5-5 win-loss slate to keep its playoff bid alive entering a two-week break before wrapping up its mid-season conference against Ginebra on July 6.
“It was Stanley’s show. This game really belongs to him,” said head coach Pido Jarencio.
“We can’t afford to lose. If we want to go to the playoffs, we should win this because we’re coming into a crucial game against Ginebra.”
Pringle was the first local player to reach 50 points in 14 years since slotman Asi Taulava did the feat in the 2004 Fiesta Conference.
“He’s just like me in college. My career-high here in the PBA is 45, but Stanley broke it. All credit goes to him,” said Jarencio, a former University of Santo Tomas gunner.
On top of his 50-point outburst on an efficient 18-of-30 shooting capped by a roaring slam dunk in the last 50.9 seconds, Pringle also added five rebounds, six assists and three steals to spearhead Globalport’s attack.
Import Malcolm White also contributed 28 points and 14 rebounds while Gabby Espinas and Paolo Taha tallied four points apiece in their Globalport debuts.
Meanwhile, four Columbian Dyip players finished with 20 or more points, led by import John Bailey Fields III with 26 points and 23 rebounds.
Dyip had been eliminated after absorbing their seventh loss in 11 matches.
