It seems like Reese Witherspoon can’t get enough of her famous alter ego. Fifteen years after Witherspoon starred in the sequel to the Legally Blonde franchise, Elle Woods is back to bring the same brand of fun and spice that made her a household name.

Deadline.com first broke the news earlier this month about the actress returning to essay the role. Days later, Witherspoon announced the good news in character, in a pink bikini while floating on the pool, on her Instagram account.

MGM and Mark Platt through his Marc Platt Productions are returning as producers, with Witherspoon’s own production outfit Hello Sunshine joining in. Writers of the first film Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah are said to return to write the upcoming film’s script.

MGM announced that the still-untitled third movie is set to be released on February 14, 2020.

The first Legally Blonde was released in 2001 and followed the story of sorority girl Elle Woods who initially enrolled herself into law school to pursue her ex-boyfriend who dumped her. She eventually learned to love her time in the school and would choose to pursue a career in the legal profession. It was considered a success, grossing at US$141.8 million from a budget of US$18 million.

A sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde was released in 2003.
