In a decision sure to be greeted with barks of approval, a South Korean court ruled Thursday that killing dogs for food is illegal.

Dog meat has long been part of Korean cuisine, with about one million dogs believed to be eaten a year.

But with South Koreans increasingly embracing the idea of dogs being man’s best friend, the court ruling may just see an end to Pido being treated as food.

A dog farm operator in Bucheon was slapped a fine of three million won ($2,700) in relation to the case.

He left the court barking mad but nonetheless waived his right to appeal. Well, he can always eat hotdog.
