More than 7,200 individuals have already been apprehended in various parts of Metro Manila since the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) launched an intensified campaign against loiterers and violators of local ordinances a week ago.
From 5 a.m. June 13 up to 5 a.m. yesterday, the NCRPO reported a total of 7,291 individuals have already been apprehended.
The Eastern Police District (EPD), which has jurisdiction over the cities of Pasig, Marikina, San Juan and Mandaluyong, reported the highest arrest with 2,237 persons.
The Southern Police District (SPD), which covers the cities of Pasay, Makati, Paranaque, Muntinlupa, Taguig and the municipality of Pateros, came in at second with 2,046 arrested individuals.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has registered a total of 1,146 persons apprehended while Northern Police District (NPD), which has the cities of Navotas, Malabon and Caloocan as areas of responsibility, reported 1,011.
Manila Police District (MPD) said 851 individuals were rounded up since its intensified campaign against loiterers.
NCRPO director Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar vowed that observance and promotion of human rights will be paramount in the Metro Manila police’s campaign against violators of local ordinances.
Earlier, Eleazar had ordered the relief of two Makati City policemen who wrongfully detained call center agents who were apprehended along with other loiterers or tambays.
The NCRPO chief reminded all Metro Manila policemen to go only after violators of ordinances like drinking and smoking in public places, going out half-naked and other local laws.
