Henry John Acorda, 36, the Filipino financial analyst at a multinational company who died protecting his friend in Slovakia last month, is finally home.
Acorda’s remains arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) yesterday morning on board a Slovak government Airbus aircraft at exactly 10:19 a.m.
Ambassador to Vienna Ma. Cleofe Natividad and a representative from the Slovak Ministry of Interior accompanied Acorda’s family during the trip back home.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano and his wife, Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano, as well as Overseas Workers Welfare Administration head Hans Leo Cacdac and OWWA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac, welcomed Acorda’s remains.
Also at the NAIA were some of Acorda’s relatives and friends who were wearing white shirts bearing the words “Justice for Henry.”

Acorda was mauled by a Slovakian weightlifter while trying to protect a Filipina friend and a Polish from being sexually harassed by the Slovakian last May 26. He died a few days later from injuries he sustained in the attack. The suspect has been arrested and the Prime Minister of Slovakia has assured the Philippines justice will be done for the slain Filipino.
