Mitchell ROMAN PROSPERO The Spida Craze’ has reached the Philippines with the Utah Jazz rookie sensation Donovan Mitchell’s first visit to the Philippines yesterday.
Dubbed as ‘The Spida’, the 21-year old Mitchell treated Filipino fans with action-packed activities, highlighted with a meet and greet and basketball clinic.
The Louisville standout also spearheaded a fund-raising three-point shootout before wrapping his one-day Manila tour with an appearance in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup Manila Clasico game between Barangay Ginebra and Magnolia.
“It’s awesome. I can’t believe it. Shout-out to all the fans out there. It’s crazy,” said Mitchell, whose fans lined-up as early as 2am.
Picked as the 13th overall last year by Utah, the high-flying rookie rose from the ranks over the top picks behind his average of 20.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists en route to becoming a candidate for the 2017-2018 NBA Rookie of the Year award.
