A Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) official welcomed yesterday an offer from Malacañang for a dialogue with the Catholic Church hierarchy to discuss certain issues.
Fr. Jerome Secillano, executive secretary of the CBCP- Permanent Committee on Public Affairs (PCPA), however, noted it would be up to the head of the CBCP if he is willing to sit down and talk with President Rodrigo Duterte.
“It is up to the leadership of the CBCP to accept (the dialogue offer) or not,” he said in an interview on Friday.
In case the Catholic prelates accepted the offer to dialogue, there should be an agenda from both parties before the talks start.

Last Friday, Presidential spokesman Harry Roque Jr. said that the President is open to talk to the members of the clergy, despite his recent criticisms against the Catholic Church.

CBCP president Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles was elected to the post in July 2017.
