A tornado struck Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, USA late on June 13 injuring at least six people and heavily damaging a shopping centers, according to media reports.
A filmer captured the severe damage to the shopping plazas after the tornado roared through. Signs on the shopping plaza’s facade were destroyed and debris was spread across the parking lot.
City and county officials closed roads around damaged shopping centers because of downed power lines and damage to a propane cylinder that was still leaking as of midmorning Thursday.
National Weather Service officials confirmed Thursday that an EF2 tornado touched down in Wilkes-Barre late Wednesday and a second tornado touched down in nearby Bradley County.
“We have to determine the width of the storm, the path of the storm, and most importantly how strong the storm was. So, that is what they are working on right now, but it definitely was a tornado,” said Dave Nicosia, a warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service. (AP)
