The position of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) was boosted as the top provider of blood needs in the country as its National Blood Centers in Mandaluyong and Port Area, Manila earned the international standard on quality management systems (ISO 9001:2015), making PRC the first blood center in Southeast Asia and the only non-hospital blood service facility in the Philippines to receive the certification.

TUV Rheinland, a global provider of technical, safety and certification services, presented the award to PRC’s Board of Governors, led by chairman Sen. Richard Gordon at the PRC Tower in Mandaluyong recently.

“As the provider of 50 percent of national blood needs, Filipinos are counting on us to help save their and their loved ones’ lives. We make sure to meet this demand by living up to our top-tier processes and standards, which include ensuring that our blood supply is safe,” Gordon said.

The ISO 9001:2015 affirms the PRC blood services’ ability to consistently provide services that meet customer and regulatory requirements, as well as enhancing customer satisfaction through an effective risk management system. PRC first received the ISO 9001:2008 in 2010 to 2013 and 2013 to 2016.

Tristan Loveres, managing director of TUV Rheinland Philippines, said the awarding of the 2015 version to PRC reflects the organization’s risk-based thinking and accountability in all processes, leadership involvement, and commitment to understand the needs of clients.
