Illegal OFW recruitment modus mastermind nabbed

Authorities have arrested the alleged mastermind of a massive illegal recruitment scheme that defrauded at least 1,700 aspiring overseas Filipino workers (OFW) out of hundreds of millions of pesos.

Police identified the suspect as Mazhoor Khusin, also known as "Maz," an official of ALJU International Manpower Services Inc. Operatives from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Project 4 Station arrested Khusin at his residence in Mexico, Pampanga.

Investigators said that between 2023 and 2024, Khusin and his accomplices promised victims jobs in Poland, Lithuania and the Czech Republic as factory workers, farmers, and hotel staff, touting monthly salaries of up to P90,000.

Applicants paid placement fees ranging from P80,000 to P130,000 each, generating hundreds of millions of pesos in illicit gains from families who took out loans or spent their life savings, police said.

Following his arrest, Khusin was transferred to the Makati City Jail, where officers served him with approximately 30 additional pending arrest warrants issued by the Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 146 for large-scale illegal recruitment.
