Manulife expands AI partnership

Manulife has expanded its partnership with Microsoft under a new five-year agreement aimed at accelerating the insurer's transformation into an artificial intelligence-powered organization through enhanced AI governance, cloud capabilities, and enterprise-wide deployment of AI tools.

Under the agreement, Manulife will adopt Microsoft 365 E7 Frontier Suite, deploy Microsoft Agent 365, and expand the use of Microsoft 365 Copilot to more than 30,000 employees to support AI solutions across its global operations.

"Our partnership with Microsoft is a critical enabler of Manulife's continued evolution into a truly AI-powered organization," said Shamus Weiland, chief technology and operations officer of Manulife.

"Adopting the Microsoft Frontier Suite represents the next phase of that transformation, giving us the trusted foundation to advance AI across our global operations with confidence. It also provides the scale, security, stability and intelligence we need to accelerate innovation and embed AI responsibly across the franchise," he added.

Microsoft will also serve as a foundational partner in Manulife's enterprise AI platform, which is currently in pilot, enabling the insurer's developers and data scientists to build, deploy and manage AI and agentic solutions while maintaining governance, security, and cost efficiency. Microsoft Agent 365 will function as a central registry to monitor, govern, and manage AI agents across the enterprise.
