The bus station set to replace “Mount Kamuning” along Kamuning in Quezon City is said to be nearing completion this Monday, according to officials from the Department of Transportation.

DOTr Secretary Giovanni “Banoy” Lopez shared in an interview with media that the construction of the EDSA-Kamuning bus station of the EDSA Carousel is already 98 percent complete and is just pending inspection from concerned agencies before getting the green light to operate.

“Inaantay lang namin ang abiso ng ating PMS kasi kailangan makita nila,” he said. “Tinitignan namin kung talaga bang pwede nang gamitin pero so far it’s now 98 percent.”

Lopez noted that this additional safety measure is part of the department’s commitment to ensuring that the facility is safe and well-built before allowing the public to utilize it.

He also said that once operation of the bus station, which features its own footbridge, starts, the department will shift its focus to demolishing the notorious Mt. Kamuning that was constructed in late 2018.

“Ang una po naming napag-usapan is we have to demolish it,” Lopez said when asked what will happen to the overpass.

The footbridge gained notoriety on social media due to comments on its sheer height, which officials said is 30 feet tall, or the equivalent of a five-story building.

President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. ordered the demolition of the walkway on June 5, 2025, urging the Department of Public Works and Highways to erect a pedestrian-friendly structure.

“We have to tear it down and build a better one,” said the President.

Lopez explained that the demolition of Mt. Kamuning would not be solely handled by the DOTr but would be conducted in coordination with the DPWH.
