The Philippine Army on 2 March kicked off activities for National Women’s Month alongside the donning of ranks for newly promoted Army majors during simultaneous ceremonies at its headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, and units nationwide.
Carrying the multi-year theme “Women and Everyone (WE) for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society,” Army units began a month-long celebration recognizing women’s contributions and highlighting empowerment through government and societal engagement.
“In the Philippine Army, this is not merely a theme. It is a commitment dependent on our core values of honor, patriotism, and duty,” Philippine Army chief Lt. Gen. Antonio G. Nafarrete said in his remarks.
Nafarrete underscored the Army’s gender and development mechanisms and its merit-based advancement system for personnel.
He also addressed the newly promoted majors as they assume greater responsibilities.
“May this promotion inspire you to continue striving for excellence, upholding the highest standards of professionalism, and leading with integrity and courage.”
The Army chief said the organization continues to recognize excellence and boost morale as part of strengthening human capital development within the service.
In Jolo, Sulu, the 11th Infantry “Alakdan” Division also marked the start of March with a flag-raising ceremony highlighting National Women’s Month, along with a donning of ranks and pinning of unit patch rites at Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista.
The event was led by Maj. Gen. Leonardo I. Peña, commander of the 11ID and Joint Task Force Orion, and attended by officers, enlisted personnel and civilian staff.
During the program, Peña conveyed the message of AFP chief of staff Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr., emphasizing that gender equality is a shared responsibility within the profession of arms.
He reminded personnel that rank signifies trust, responsibility and service anchored on integrity and leadership.
The ceremony also recognized newly promoted officers and welcomed newly assigned personnel, including Lt. Col. Abel C. Potutan, to the division.
Army officials said the activities reaffirm their commitment to professionalism, unity and national initiatives while strengthening leadership within the ranks.
