Four families left homeless in Marikina fire

Four families were left homeless after a fire razed a two-story house on Kapt. Sindo Street, Barangay Jesus Dela Peña, Marikina City early Saturday morning.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire broke out around 4:29 a.m. and quickly reached the first alarm.

Authorities said the fire originated on the second floor of the house, particularly within the bedroom area.

There were residents who already smelled smoke before the fire actually broke outbroke out.

One house was burned down, but it was divided into eight compartments where four families with a total of ten individuals were living. No casualties or injuries were reported.

The estimated cost of damage reached P225,000, covering a total burned area of 158 square meters.

A total of 18 fire trucks from the Bureau of Fire Protection and volunteer groups responded, including an ambulance.

According to a barangay official, electrical multi-wiring is being looked into as a possible cause, although it is still under investigation.

The Bureau of Fire Protection reminded the public to ensure that appliances are unplugged from the outlet when not in use to prevent fire.
